Why Horses?
Horses are uniquely suited for this type of work. As prey animals, their survival depends on being part of the herd. As such, their brains are hard-wired to sense the physiological changes that occur in the beings around them -- including us -- with shifts in our mood, thoughts, feelings and intentions. They are also honest. They don't have our social expectations. They react to shifts within us because it is vital to their survival.

Most people go through daily life with limited self-awareness. It would be too difficult to be self-aware at every moment and get anything done. Yet the parts of our brains that are in charge of emotions and connection with others are always active, albeit at a low volume. Research shows that increased self-awareness improves our effectiveness with others in any setting. By witnessing the horses' reactions to us in real time, we become much more aware of how we are coming across to others and how shifting our approach can change the outcome.
Nervous About Horses?
That's understandable! Horses are large animals. The alertness one feels around these large animals is one of the reasons that Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is so effective. Psi Equine adheres to the highest standards of safety. The humans and horses here want this to be an enjoyable and worthwhile experience for you. We will teach you some basic horse safety rules and will be monitoring the horses at all times. Your level of participation is entirely up to you.
Our Herd
Knowing details about the particular horse or horses you partner with in your session may alter the outcome. We will answer any questions about your equine partner after you complete your experience with Psi Equine.
